DSH – Preparation Course

The German fluency exam for foreign applicants for university entrance takes place at the University of Augsburg in March and September.

We can take you through the preparations step by step. Our course offers intensive preparation for the DSH-Exam at the University of Augsburg [other universities recognize this qualification as well]. Experienced university lecturers teaching at our school have made this course a real success story! The well above-average exam results of our students in the last few years speak for themselves. Keep in mind that sitting this important exam is a prerequisite for entrance to a German university. Every aspect of the exam is covered [understanding and practical use of the reading and listening comprehension exercises and analysis of the structures contained within]. The writing of small essays on a given topic and structures of an academic nature are systematically practised. Vocabulary lists, planning assistance and specific grammar worksheets are regularly given out.

We offer you

  • systematic and specific preparation for all aspects of the exam
  • conveyance of test-taking techniques and exam strategies
  • a substantial DSH-Textbook, specifically written for this purpose
  • exam simulations using DSH-Tests from the previous 10 years
  • ‘rehearsal’ once a week – a mock exam using an original DSH-Test
  • at least 3 essay tasks per week, which are then discussed in detail

OurDSH-Preparation Course contains a heavy workload, and is therefore only for students with an advanced knowledge! Since this course is very quickly booked out, on the basis of the high rate of success, it is necessary to book early.

TestDaF preparation courses

This is a newly standardized test which is offered in 65 countries around the world and is internationally recognized. It is above all suited to those who wish to begin tertiary study in Germany, or simply would like to have their German ability tested, for academic or professional purposes, in an alternative way [after approximately 700 hours German]. Reading and listening comprehension, and oral and written expression are tested. TestDaF is a language test at an advanced level. The qualification corresponds approximately to Level  C1 according to Council Europe “European Language Portfolio”. Proof of your German knowledge is not necessary to register. The test can be repeated as many times as you wish.

Assessment

TestDaF measures your German fluency. The results of the exam are ordered into 3 levels:

  • TestDaF Level 5 [TDN 5]
  • TestDaF Level 4 [TDN 4]
  • TestDaF Level 3 [TDN 3]

TDN 5 is the highest level. Results under TDN 3 are not differentiated, but establish that the participant has not yet reached the standard required. If you achieve a Level 5, you can study at any university or college in Germany. With a Level 4 or 3, you will eventually be accepted.

Important: The TestDaF can be taken without prior registration at a university, or secondary school qualifications. Registration is a written application, and costs approximately EUR 130,00. The results are posted in a written format 8 weeks after the exam.

Our TestDaF-Courses take place six times a year and finish directly before the corresponding exam. Please observe the registration deadlines!

ADK has prepared students for the TestDaF-Exam successfully with:

  • small, homogenous groups
  • weekly practice tests
  • experienced lecturers
  • individual advice
  • test-taking techniques
  • help with organizational aspects [signing up, etc.]

The following four skills are tested separately, in order to establish a differentiated linguistic profile of achievement. The test results of the individual skills are written separately on the certificate.

  • Reading Comprehension [read articles and answer corresponding questions – 3 texts at different levels of difficulty, various exercises and types of articles eg. compiling short texts, journalistic reports, scientific articles]
  • Listening Comprehension [3 listening comprehension exercises, eg. everyday dialogues head at university, interviews, with a variety of different types of questions]
  • Written Expression [essays on a given topic, eg. descriptions of graphs or tables, individual viewpoints and explanations of reasons, clarifying opinions] Oral Expression [putting forth questions, expressing a convincing argument, descriptions and debates.] This part of the exam is recorded onto tape, not tested in person!

Every university / college has its own enrolment procedure. Please look into which TestDaF results are required for the school of your choice before you apply.

These results can be found on the websites of some universities and colleges. Information about tertiary study in Germany and contact details can be found on the following websites: www.testdaf.de
